Summit Springs Battle Birthday Observed in Colorado Nebraska Border
On Tuesday July 11 the 64th anniversary of the Summit Springs battle near the Colorado Nebraska line was recalled by Dr. A. E. Sheldon of the state historical society. The fight enabled settlers to enter the Republican valley after Cheyenne attacks. Tall Bull was killed by Major Frank North and the Cheyenne camp destroyed. Captain Luke North of Columbus and Dr. Sheldon recently photographed the battlefield 19 miles south of Sterling. the films will be shown at the capitol. The 1870 Nebraska legislature passed a rare resolution praising the North brothers Pawnee scouts General Carr and the Fifty for frontier safety, an action unique in state history. The original resolution hangs in Dr. Sheldon’s office, given by Captain North.

Railroad workers believe a main driving pin shattered or shaved caused a two hour delay to the Portland Rose, a crack Union Pacific limited, at Colton Sunday afternoon. The engine was disabled pending repairs and several cars were damaged. Coaches with flat wheels derailed after skidding about 100 yards near Cheyenne.

Two Cars Collide At Sidney Intersections
Mrs. Herman Schroeder driving and Francis Fisher in a machine collided at the corner of Illinois street and 11th avenue on Wednesday night. Schroeder’s car struck Fisher’s vehicle broadside, ripping off the running board and causing other damage.
