Nebraska Faces $168 Million Three Year Highway Plan

State Engineer L N Ress warned Monday Nebraska could complete a $168.6 million highway program in three years if federal funds are matched. A $3 million shortfall under present revenue could cost $30 million in federal aid for interstate work. The 90-10 federal-state split boosts added money to $72.2 million for 1956-1959, but the state must raise $10.8 million for interstate projects. Ress pledged no neglect of current roads and noted the interstate plan is unpopular in some areas. The state has historically matched federal funds but faces tighter years ahead.
