Sidney expands diesel plant with 3430 hp Nordberg engine
Sidney Nebraska awards contracts totaling 467956.26 for a major diesel plant expansion and street lighting upgrades. A new 3430 horsepower Nordberg engine will raise plant capacity to 8220 hp, with delivery in 240 days. Street lighting gets mercury vapor lights on main streets and more residential posts, to be completed in about 130 days. Total bids come in about 75 thousand below engineer estimates, and fuel costs are expected to drop as the plant shifts to natural gas.

Weekend Nebraska crashes leave drivers uninjured
Three weekend highway accidents caused heavy vehicle damage in Nebraska. A 1951 Nash driven by Joseph Robillard and a 1948 Chevrolet driven by Charles Tessar collided east of Dix on Highway 30 with $900 total damage. A 1951 GMC pickup and a 1950 Ford, driven by Harry and Algor Jonsson of Salt Lake City, were involved near Sidney. trailer damage estimated at $440 with minor pickup damage. A 1950 Pontiac and a 1951 Ford collided at Potter on U S 30. Pontiac damage about $150 and Ford about $30. California travelers suffered a shifted holiday detour wreck near Chappell with substantial Buick damage, and Sheriff John Glenn reported Mr and Mrs William Cunningham of Long Beach treated for cuts and bruises.
