Sidney Priest Assists With Cathedral Dedication
Reverend Anton Link returned Friday morning from Grand Island where he helped in the consecration services of the Catholic Cathedral. The cathedral’s consecration signals the building is debt free, reflecting Bishop James A. Duffey and parishioners’ finances. Two cathedrals west of the Mississippi had been consecrated before this one, at St. Louis and Denver. Dignitaries included Cardinal Hayes of New York and Archbishop Keane of Dubuque, among nineteen bishops and over a hundred priests. About fifteen hundred attended the day’s ceremonies and the inaugural recital featured Miss Mary Downey of New York at the new Reuter organ in the cathedral.

Supreme Court Amends Bank Case Ruling for Guaranty Fund
The Supreme Court issued an opinion last week clarifying liability rules for the guaranty fund in failed state bank cases. It reversed in part and affirmed in part the Cheyenne county district court ruling in the Omaha National Bank and State Bank of Potter claims. The decision holds that deposits funded by a stockholder loan used to aid a failed bank are not payable from the fund, while funds collected for a customer and credited to them remain collectible against the fund unless a loan was intended. It also grants a prior lien to proceeds held in trust for a collector bank, if augmented assets can be traced to the receiver. Result: the fund covers about $4,400 and denies about $4,000 in claims.
