Methodist Church Marks 75th Year in Sidney

Sidney's First Methodist Church prepares for a 75th anniversary observance this Sunday July 11 with morning services at the church a 5 pm Band Shell gathering a 6 pm picnic dinner and an 8 pm film showing John Wesley A free organ is provided by Schmoller and Mueller of Scottsbluff The church began July 8 1879 under Rev B Lemon and has a long history including the Lemon Memorial Methodist Church of Sidney built in 1884 and a 1919 dedication of a new brick church and parsonage

Historical Car Exhibition Delights Nebraskans in Panhandle Tour

The Nebraska Centennial Railroad Car drew over a thousand visitors as it toured Cheyenne County Chappell Kimball and Gering during a six state journey. Dr Vladimir Kucera director and Czech refugee praised western Nebraskans for their keen interest and intergenerational engagement with historic artifacts. Tales gathered from old settlers and taped for archives highlight the exhibit travels toward Lincoln for the State Fair with planned broadcasts on Radio Free Europe.

Dick Herman Named To Direct Telegraph News Department

Dick Herman a 26 year old newsman joins The Telegraph editorial staff and will head the news desk for the Sidney trade area. A Burlington Iowa native and University of Missouri graduate he brings experience from Iowa Kansas and Nebraska papers including Scottsbluff Star Herald and Dodge City Globe. He and his wife Jacquelyn and their 23 month old son Ted are in Grand Island awaiting suitable living facilities in Sidney. The move supports plans to publish more often and expand field coverage as the Sidney paper shifts toward tri weekly publication.

Ackerman Heads Anderson Drive in Cheyenne County

W P Ackerman of Sidney was named chairman of the Victor E Anderson for Governor club in Cheyenne County. Anderson, the Lincoln Republican candidate, praised Ackerman and outlined a platform emphasizing fair dealing, tax reform, highway safety, and efficient state government.

Sidney Man Seeks Uranium Deposits Near Laramie

Tony Messing of Laramie Wyoming and his father George Messing are prospecting for uranium in the Laramie area. A 42 pound uranium ore sample has been displayed at The American National Bank after analysis showed about two percent uranium content. Messing holds three claims on a school section with mineral rights to nearby property and plans to form a company to develop the ore using bulldozers.

Resurfacing Set For No 30 Bids Sought

Bids from contractors to resurface Highway 30 from Kimball to Bushnell were requested by the Department of Roads and Irrigation in Lincoln. Sealed bids must be received by 10 a.m. July 29. The 11.9 mile project includes a new roadbed from the Cheyenne County line west to Kimball and a future surface plan with an oil mat and asphalt concrete. The state will keep the highway through Kimball for 8 to 10 years.

Cornerstone Ceremony Set for Cheyenne County Hospital

A cornerstone laying marks a milestone in the Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital project with a 2 pm ceremony led by W. J. Bill Robinson. Dean Joseph B.
