Fourth of July Accidents mark Cheyenne County Weekend
Two one car crashes marred a safe Fourth of July in Cheyenne County with heavy traffic yet few injuries. A 1950 Ford driven by Benny Saunders of Sterling fell asleep and struck posts, causing about 350 dollars damage. A 1949 Studebaker carrying Edgar C. Ogelvie and G. S. Thompson rolled on a curve, injuring both occupants and causing about 300 dollars damage. Sidney firemen fought a weed fire along Union Pacific rights of way and later two calls at a nearby residence, where a blaze gutted the house and later rekindled. Damage undetermined for the final fire.

Arsonist Sentenced to Two Years in Nebraska Penitentiary
Wayne Ferrill aged 28 pleaded guilty to arson and was sentenced by District Judge I J Nisley to two years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary. He admitted setting fire to clothing belonging to his wife at their home Monday night around 11 30. Ernesto Siaz also appeared before the judge charged with carrying concealed weapons and asked for counsel. Pat Heaton Jr was appointed as his attorney.

Martin Henry Reker 63 of Sidney died of a heart attack in his sleep. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery under Gehrig & Son Funeral Home. Reker, born February 13, 1891 in Bear Branch Indiana, moved to Sidney in 1902. He married Mary Brachtenbach in 1913 and worked as mechanical foreman at Union Pacific in Sidney for 35 years. He belonged to Woodmen of the World, Union Pacific Old Timers, and the Lutheran Church. Surviving: wife, father Fred Reker of Sidney, four children Eugene and Virginia of Sidney, Dolores Sedgwick of LOC, Eileen Rhine of Carthage, Missouri. three brothers Carl, Herman, Ernest. two sisters Elsie Driever of Aurora Oregon and Clara Bushman of Dayton Ohio.
