High winds knocked down trees at the Sidney cemetery Tuesday night, damaging grave markers and leaving debris across streets. Three crews cleared branches and litter under City Manager Tom Coffey’s orders as the storm, with lightning and driving rain, swept through Sidney and nearby areas.

Grain permits can be obtained during a 15 hour daily harvest period. Mrs Mable Jorgensen Cheyenne County treasurer says permits are issued from 8 a m to 5 p m at the courthouse. The Port of Entry opens for sales 5 a m to 9 a m and 5 p m to 8 p m each day.

City's Water Supply Ample Amid Heat Wave
Sidney's municipal water supply is ready for a hot dry summer says Water Commissioner Floyd Lanks. Despite July heat the first seven days saw lighter demand than last year with two days over five million gallons versus five in July 1963. He expects July usage to top one hundred million gallons if trends hold, noting June pumped over 79 million against a ten year average of 71 million. Wells remain steady with levels about a foot lower than now, pumps and equipment in excellent condition as growth drives demand.
