Phone Rate Hike Is Under Advisement
The state railway commission took under advisement Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. petition for rate increases after a four day hearing. The firm seeks five to 15 percent raises to cover charges and ensure a fair return with party line prices rising 50 cents to $1 and residence lines up 25 to 75 cents. Prompt payment discounts would end and long distance tolls under 175 miles rise while those over 175 miles fall slightly. Northwestern Bell serves 158,000 Nebraska telephones.
