Binders Active As Opening Harvest Operations Begin
Binders are humming through winter wheat fields in Cheyenne County as the 1938 harvest opens. Several hundred acres have been cut and shocked awaiting threshing. Some farmers plan to use combines for speed, others keep binders for straw. Reports place first binders west of Lorenzo and south of town with weather delays possible. Farmers aim to start by July 10, hoping to finish before Sunday. Hail damaged fields nearby, with losses southeast of town and northeast where storms struck earlier. Many welcome combines to resolve crop debates as prices slip and government loan options loom.

Little Progress In Fox Robbery Probe
Authorities investigating the $600 safe robbery at the Fox Theatre last Tuesday morning acknowledged little progress yesterday. Scant clues were left by the thieves who used an acetylene torch to bore through the safe door. A small packet of book matches bearing a Denver cafe ad suggests a gang of professional safe crackers from Denver may have planned the break in after casing the building for days. Thieves entered via a Safeway roof vent, carried a torch and oxygen tank, and evidence indicates multiple men were involved. Police doubt a lone thief could manage the heavy equipment.
