Cindy Mueller Nebraska Wheat Queen and 1965 Wheat Month proclamation attended by Governor Frank Morrison at the Capitol. The 17 year old daughter of Kenneth and Mrs. Mueller of Potter toured the Capitol with her mother and Mrs. Dale Erlwine and made radio and TV appearances promoting wheat. She will represent NWGA at the State Fair in Lincoln in September and at county fairs across the summer.

Sidney School Budget To Increase Slightly
The Sidney Board of Education approves a 58 mill levy for School Districts 1 and 2, just under one mill higher than last year. Supt. Russell Pedersen notes this is the first time in years the annual raise stayed below one mill after budget cuts during three late sessions due to reduced revenue from Sioux Army Depot. With a district valuation of 15 million dollars for 1965-66, General Fund is 778,332 and 52.5 mills, up from 51.5. Bond Fund remains 5.5 mills for 76,000.

The general budget totals 965132 for 1965 66, up from 953205 last year by 11927. Salary obligations account for 16040 of the rise, with a six teacher reduction trimming staff costs to 16040.
Losses and Gains in Sioux Army Depot District Budget
The district projects major revenue declines with 80 fewer eligible students cutting Federal Aid from 75 000 to 65 000 and total to 54 000 as Education programs offset some losses. Temporary School Land Funds fall to 16 000 Vocational Education drops to 600. Four bond debt trimmed to 770 000 with 76 000 current payment, 53 000 of which reduces principal to 717 000.

Two new oil producers are reported this week in Cheyenne and Banner Counties. The Cheyenne County No 1 Deaser well in Eddy Field is drilled by Kimbark Exploration Co west of Dale ton. A tornado like hail storm swept from Harrisburg to Dix Potter Lorenzo Peetz and Iliff in Colorado causing widespread crop ruin. Wheat plants four feet tall were cut to six inch stubs while irrigated fields, beans and corn suffered heavy losses. The storm damaged windows trees and gardens in Peetz and ruined crops likely beyond replacement with millet as the only late option.

Tractor Fire Causes $100 Damage to Local Tractor
An estimated $100 damage occurred when a tractor owned by Tom OConnell caught fire early Tuesday. Sidney volunteer firefighters were summoned to a field located one mile west and a half mile north of Lorenzo.
