Military strength and ideas shape modern power politics
The editorial discusses how ideas, not force alone, drive statecraft. It analyzes President Johnson’s arms review, the arms race balance with the Soviet Union, and the role of guerrilla warfare in Southeast Asia, stressing that peace depends on stronger, wiser use of military power. It also weighs civil rights politics, imported meat disputes, and Khrushchev’s aid to Egypt, reflecting on leadership, constitutional limits, and international maneuvering.

Family Car Drives Big Chunk Of Household Budgets
Lincoln based home management specialist Mrs. Clara N Leopold of the University of Nebraska Extension says the automobile takes about one dollar of every ten from a family budget. She notes registrations have doubled since World War I and risen about 50 percent in the last decade. She offers fixed and operating cost formulas—depreciation, insurance, licenses, taxes, interest, gas, oil, tires, maintenance, and parking—then urges totaling costs and dividing by annual miles to see the per mile cost.
