Farmers and elevator operators in Lodgepole Sand Cheyenne County say wheat cutting could start over the weekend if hot dry weather continues. Elevators in Lorenzo report early cuts possible due to dry conditions. If combines begin by July Fourth it would be one of the earliest harvests in years. Wheat ripening rapidly along the south table with recent rains aiding spring grains and pastures though not winter wheat. Premiums for high protein wheat offered by mills at thirty eight cents a bushel. Cheyenne and Kimball counties remain major protein suppliers. Harvesting already begun in Colorado Ovid and Crook areas with Wichita wheat. Nebraska reports variable test weights moisture and yields in early wheat harvests, but corn oats sugar beets and pastures show strength. By July 4 most of the state should be harvesting with western panhandle 제외. Cheyenne County gains storage via Gurley elevator completion and on farm storage. Keith County adds grain tanks.
