Blaze at Hardy bungalow causes minor damage
Saturday evening a fire alarm summoned the department to the new Hardy bungalow in the southwest part of town. The blaze caused sixty to seventy dollars in damage, traced to a water heater coal in the basement where a leaking tank ignited the oil.
Sidney Beats Alliance 26 to 6 in Sun Fairgrounds Game
A large crowd watched Sidney rout Alliance at the Fairgrounds, piling up 24 hits and 27 runs before the game ended in the seventh inning. Art Closman pitched well for Alliance, while Joe Simodynes homered and doubled for Sidney as the lineup supported a dominant offensive showing.

Sidney Furnishes Several Slackers
On June 28 four were tried before United States Commissioner Oberfelder for unlawfully failing to register. Defendants were William Martin, Jos Osay, Edgar Hopkins and Ernest Haywood. Martin and Clay were sent to Federal prison by Officer E D Lincoln. Hopkins and Haywood released on $300 appearance bonds each.

New Headlight Law Requires Special Lenses by July First
A new state law regulating headlights takes effect July 1. Drivers must equip vehicles with specially manufactured lenses that diffuse glare while using white lamps from after sunset to before sunrise. Lenses must meet specified standards. four candle power or less is deemed useless. Garages stock lenses believed to comply.
Pleasant Man Robbed After Pleasant Talk
Blaine Grabill was addressed with a casual hello by a white male who then drew a revolver and robbed him near an under construction Miles house. The assailant took Blaine’s watch and five dollars after a brief, calm conversation before fleeing with two companions. Police pursued none as witnesses stayed away and the trio vanished into the minstrel show crowd.
