Gurleyite Reappointed to Nebraska Wheat Board

Berton Cunningham of Gurley has been named by Gov. Anderson to the seven member Nebraska Wheat Development Utilization and Marketing Commission. Cunningham, one of the original western Nebraska appointees, will serve a five year term after his initial one year term expired June 30.

Cheyenne County Collects 85 Percent of 1955 Taxes

Cheyenne County reports about 85 percent of its 1955 taxes collected totaling roughly 1.599 million dollars since last November. The eventual total stands at about 1.859 million, with real estate installments due September 1. Delinquent amounts may exceed 50 thousand dollars, trailing these collections.

Patrol Auto Crashes Into Pole Near Dalton

A Nebraska Safety Patrol cruiser struck a telephone pole at the south edge of Dalton during a heavy rain. Driver Patrolman Bob Cook escaped injury but the car suffered several hundreds of dollars in damage after skidding on gravel washed onto Highway 19. Cook checked into Memorial hospital for a morning checkup.

Wheat price supports set at two dollars a bushel

Secretary of Agriculture Benson announced the 1957 wheat price supports at $2 a bushel, pending July referendum approval of quotas. If quotas fail, supports drop to 50 percent of parity or $1.20 per bushel based on current parity estimates. Benson credited factors that allowed maintaining higher support than the minimum.

Garbage truck hits parked car injuring exact driver not stated

A City of Sidney garbage truck driven by James Minshall, 27, of Sidney, struck the rear of a parked auto near the intersection of 11th Ave and Illinois St about 11 am yesterday. The car, owned by Clair Bradley, 50, of Shenandoah, Ia, sheared the curb and hit a parking meter, damaging it.

Five Charged With Assessment Refusal In County Court

Five Cheyenne County residents faced county court charges for refusing to list personal property for assessment. County Attorney Pat Heaton Jr. filed the charges yesterday at the request of County Assessor Roy Gish. Rites Held Tuesday For Guy S Shaw 76

Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church for Guy S Shaw 76 who died Saturday evening in Memorial Hospital Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery The Craig Mortuary oversaw arrangements Shaw a prominent Cheyenne County farmer and former Commissioner served 12 years on the county board He helped organize the Farmers Cooperative Elevator at Lorenzo in 1918 later serving as its president for a decade and remained on its board of directors until 1946 He was active in the Methodist Church and served many years on the Lorenzo School Board

Vandals Shoot Insulators Hallmark Sund-Colton Area

Wheatbelt Public Power District reports line insulators shot in the Sund Colton area causing outages and hundreds of dollars in damage. Manager Charles Ham says more than six insulators were destroyed in the past month. A $100 reward is offered for information leading to arrests and convictions.

A .45 caliber Colt Model 1873 single action pistol serial 137025 is missing from a display at Ft Sidney Days Museum. The owners suspect it was taken by mistake and request information from The Telegraph. no questions will be asked. Loss could impact future displays at the Ft Sidney Days Museum.

Friday Rites Held For Mrs. J. Goeman

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church Dalton for Mrs. Johanna Goeman 79 who died after a stroke in Bridgeport. She survived by two daughters Mrs Faye DeVier Sidney and Mrs Mable Englert Dalton two sons Morris Glenda Wye and Robert Broadwater plus two granddaughters and many relatives. She had lived in Dalton Gurley Broadwater Scottsbluff and Bridgeport.

Albert Keller 50 Dies in Washington

Mrs Frank Fraundorfer receives word of the death of her brother Albert Keller 50 of Seattle who died last week after a two year illness. Funeral services were held Thursday morning in Seattle. Mr Keller was well known in Sidney having once been employed there.

James C Hayes age 22 of Riverton Neb was bound over to Cheyenne County Court after pleading guilty to forging a check on a Kimball man and passing it in a Sidney clothing store violating state law.

Nearly Eight Inches Reported At Dalton Nebraska Panhandle floods and hail devastate crops

Monsoon like rains swept through the Nebraska Panhandle from Saturday with heavy hail and tornado reports between Sidney and Crook Colorado. Dalton measured 3 60 inches last night and 7.10 inches for July, flooding parks in Sidney and causing farm losses across Lorenzo Potter and Lodgepole areas. Park improvements prevented floods while Minatare faced a million dollar damage estimate.

Farm land values rise across regions in year to March

United States farmland values increased in all regions for the year ended last March. The national average rose 4 percent with the Southeast showing the largest gains 5 to 11 percent. Most northeastern and lake states also climbed. Nebraska and Colorado were the only states with declines.

Phone Firm Pays 63055 In Taxes in 1955 Nebraska return

J R Miller manager of Northwestern Bell Telephone says the 1955 county tax payment for personal property is 18915.65, part of a total county bill near 63055.38. He notes Nebraska telephone taxes rose since 1941 and that total 1955 Nebraska tax and excise payments by Northwestern Bell exceed 7.3 million dollars.
