Sidney city budget gains from bond and interest costs

City Manager Murrey Fuller presents a proposed 1956 57 budget raising expenditures to 258 268 from 228 640 with a levy increase from 22 40 to 24 322 mills based on an 11 million valuation. Bond and interest costs drive most of the rise, with a 29 215 jump in that category and a 2 73 mill boost in total bond and interest levies.

Counting Bond Levies Show Schools Seek Nearly One Million

Cheyenne County schools plan to request about 1 million dollars in operational tax money for next year. Twenty-six of 31 districts have submitted budgets totaling 927,889.32 dollars, with five more districts expected to push the total near one million. Bond levies are listed separately, Sidney needing 64,000 dollars more for bonds.

Valuations Filed for Two Cheyenne County Estates

Inventories list the estates of Burel Kinney and John Gipfert. Kinney died earlier this year as an oil field water hauler. his estate is valued at $189,184.26 and he left a wife and children. Gipfert died April 1 without a will. his estate is valued at $133,948.19, with $22,973.19 in personal property and $111,025 in real estate, and his two sons William and George survive.

Tax Levies Proposed In County Budget Figures

The Cheyenne County Fair Board seeks 9000 tax dollars for next year, filed with the county clerk. Other levies include Rural Fire District No. 2 at 0.2 mill, Rural Fire District No. 3 at 0.5 mill, Noxious Weed District 6817, Cheyenne County Extension Service 6667, Potter Rural Cemetery District 0.25 mill, and the Village of Dalton 13000 versus 12950 this year.

Car Crash Near Huntsman Causes $400 Damage

Estimated damage from a Tuesday afternoon mishap on Highway 19 three miles north of Huntsman reached $400. Robert Cabela of Sidney collided with the rear of a car driven by Mrs. Marjorie Borcher of Route 1 Sidney as she slowed for a turnoff.

University fossil pit extension yields giant rhino jaw

University paleontologists expanded the Uptegrov e fossil pit in the Spearow Oil Field near Sidney Ohio by 40 feet. Bruce White and Carl Olson reported fossils in all test holes including a giant rhino jaw. Rain delays pushed work back while optimism grows for richer finds and potential funding.

Root Beer Drive Gives $51.67 to Local History Group

The Cheyenne County Historical Association receives 51.67 dollars from Ernest and Mrs. Melton owners of the A W Root Beer Stand in Sidney. They donated all root beer sales from last Saturday despite rain reducing some sales. Dick Herman, association president, welcomes the funds for ongoing projects.

Crook Youth Prays For Disease Cure

A 12 year old Crook boy Gerald Kalinowski prays at Our Lady of Lourdes shrines in France for a miraculous recovery from muscular dystrophy. He traveled from Denver with his mother toward Lourdes in hopes of cure as doctors call the disease incurable. The family priest from Sterling was to join them there.

Vernon Whicker Gets 30 Day Jail Term For Bad Check

Vernon Whicker 32 of Haskell Oklahoma pleaded guilty to writing a ten dollar no fund check and passing it to a Sidney gas station on Tuesday. Cheyenne County Judge C W Smith sentenced him to 30 days in jail yesterday.

Jaycees chaired by Jack Ramm honored 32 Sparkplug recipients for activity May 1955 to May 1956 including Dan Duncan, Vern Anthony, Chuck Willey, and Benny Hochman. Applications For Soil Bank Increase In Cheyenne County

Don Rapp of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office says about 14 or 15 farmers have applied to join the soil bank this year. Deadlines set for crop destruction by July 15 and applications by July 20. Eligible participants must be compliant with acreage allotments as of June 20. Several farmers are waiting to gauge how the program will function before joining.

Seven Injured In Morrill County July 4 Crash

Seven people were injured in a headon collision on a Morrill County road northeast of Broadwater on July 4. The crash at a hill crest caused about 1700 in property damage. Injured include Cecil Hamilton 44 of Dodge City Kansas his wife Lorane and sons Dennis three and James two Mrs Orlena Bryan 35 of Broadwater and two passengers Pearl Bryan eight and Janice McDermott ten. Hamilton suffered a broken pelvis jaw and ribs with severe lacerations. All were transported to a Scottsbluff hospital.

Detectives Detain Kansas City Auto Theft Suspect Minnick

Detectives Wednesday picked up Gordon Minnick from the Cheyenne County Jail for transport back to Kansas City. Minnick is charged with auto theft and was taken into custody by county officials at Gurley where he worked as a painter.

Petroleum activity visible in Cheyenne and Kimball counties

In Cheyenne County the Benish No 1 extension of the Juelfs Field reaches 5,167 feet as Petroleum Inc drills north of Potter while Strain Drilling eyes the Anderson No 1 wildcat and Tremain No 1 Jorgesen No 1 remain in planning. Kimball County reports two new field wells completed and two dry holes this week amid slow oil activity and casing delays.

54 450 More Polio Shots Due In State

Nebraska will receive 54 450 doses of Salk anti polio vaccine during July. Al Rouse head of the state polio division said this will be the largest single release of Salk vaccine ever received by the state. He noted the U S Department of Health has recommended raising the eligible age to 20. Nebraska recently hiked the age limit to include those through age 19.

Sidney Sees 92 Million Gallons Used In June

Sidney city records show June water use at 92,239,000 gallons from five of six wells. Peak day June 13 saw 4,440,000 gallons, with average daily use 3,074,600. Commissioner Floyd Sanks predicts well use may top 100 million later this year.

Ohio Oil Building New Illinois Lab

Findlay Ohio ground has been broken for a new Ohio Oil Co laboratory at Robinson Illinois to support the refinery. The 15 000 square foot facility will replace the old lab and house advanced equipment including a mass spectrometer and an emission spectrograph to improve product quality and refinery efficiency.
