Sidney to Host Public Hearing On Elderly Needs

Sidney is among eight Nebraska communities selected to host hearings on older Nebraskans’ needs. The Sept 9, 1970 session at the Sidney Senior Citizens Center is co sponsored by the City of Sidney and the State Advisory Committee on Aging to inform the 1971 Governor’s Conference on Aging and the White House Conference on Aging. Attendees include city and county officials, state officials, media, and private agencies. Older residents will complete a machine scored questionnaire to establish needs priorities.

Wheat Payment Checks Boost On Certificates Reflect 5¢ Per Bushel

The Agriculture Department will issue about $830 million in wheat payments next week to 949,000 farms under the production control program. The certificates total $1.57 per bushel on 43 percent of allotted production, 5 cents higher than last year, funded by government and wheat processors.

The Panhandle forecast calls for fair and warm conditions through today and Saturday with highs in the 90s and lows around 60. Rain chances are near zero tonight and tomorrow. the extended outlook shows a small shower chance Tuesday and cooler temperatures by Tuesday with highs in the 90s and lows in the 50s.

Gas Leak at Sidney Chevron Station Needs Fire Crew

Sidney firemen responded to a gas leak at the Chevron Station on the town’s west edge Thursday at 12 15 p m. An underground tank filled to transfer gas escaped through a loose connection spilling about 500 gallons. Firefighters hosed the area to prevent a fire and limit risk to residents, then worked to fully clean up the spill.

Suspected Lincoln Destruction Suspect Nabbed Near Kimball

Charles H. Bragan a 29 year old Lynchburg Virginia man wanted in Lancaster County for malicious destruction of property and bail jumping was arrested Thursday by State Trooper Richard Larsen on Highway 30 about 13 miles east of Kimball at 4 40 p m The NCIC check showed he was wanted in Lincoln and under investigation in Lynchburg for worthless check charges He is being held in Kimball County Jail and Lincoln deputies plan to transport him today.

Fourth of July weekend seen as high crash risk

An oil drilling site announced in Morrill County west of Bridgeport could connect the Bridgeport Field and the Dunlap Field if commercial quantities are found.
