A 14 member study committee wrapping up work on a new K-12 science curriculum for Sidney Public Schools will present an outline to the school board after this summer. The group aims to integrate life physical and earth sciences into a spiral progression with local resources.

Oktoberfest plans draw locals to Sidneys fall event

Cole told Cheyenne County Chamber directors at July meeting that plans for a multi country Oktoberfest festival in Sidney aim to honor the nations bicentennial with booths for Germany Korea Mexico and Japan plus a beer garden box social dances flea market horsemanship and crafts. A public meeting is set for July 9 at City Council Chambers.

Fourth of July events planned in Sidney and Cheyenne County

A full Fourth of July schedule in Sidney and Cheyenne County includes a children's parade meeting at the Sidney Public Library at 8:45 a.m. and marching east on Jackson Street at 9 a.m. Activities move to Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp for demonstrations, a ground breaking ceremony for Monica McNish Memorial Lodge, flag presentations, and remarks by local officials. The Girls' Softball District Tournament starts at 9 a.m., followed by a large free fireworks display at Verde Lane Dam after dusk. County offices close, mail service reduced, and the Sidney Telegraph issues delayed to Thursday.

Parkland Addition zoning plan advances to hearing

The Sidney Planning Commission unanimously approved a preliminary report endorsing residential and commercial zoning for the Parkland Addition in southeast Sidney. A hearing is set for 6 45 p m on July 14 with final council action possible at the same day meeting. Parkland Development seeks duplex and commercial zones to balance growth while preserving nearby single family character.

FBI Holds Witness in Slayings of Two Agents at Pine Ridge

FBI says David Sky, named as material witness, appeared before a Rapid City court after arrest on another matter. Sky is being held to testify before a federal grand jury regarding the killings of agents Ronald Williams and Jack Coler on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Wheat Harvest Outlook Across Nebraska This July

Cheyenne County farmers began winter wheat harvest last year and expect no earlier than the third week of July this year. In Chase Hitchcock and Hayes Counties in the McCook region cutting may start this weekend in hail damaged and continuous wheat areas. If more moisture fails to arrive, general cutting could begin by July 7 to 10 with Alma and North Platte areas following around July 10.

Two New Hampshire youths hospitalized after I-80 crash

Two New Hampshire youths were hospitalized Tuesday after a one car crash on Interstate 80 east of Sidney at 4 5 p m. The driver Lawrence Douglas 17 of Salem N H suffered severe facial cuts a severed right thumb and left ear after a right rear tire blew on a curve. Passenger Sean Lenane 17 also of Salem had facial cuts and internal injuries. Owner Jerry Woodrow 31 of Newmark Calif was treated and released.
