SOD Personnel Expansion At Sioux Ordnance Depot

Henry Kaune Dies After Illness in Potter Community
Henry Kaune, a German native who settled five miles northeast of Potter in Cheyenne County after arriving in 1911, died Sunday afternoon following a yearlong illness from strokes. He would have turned 83 on February 11. Survived by five children Melanie and Valera Schwartz, Phyllis Shaw, and Arthur and Eugene Kaune, his wife Minnie died in September 1942. Funeral arrangements are pending with Gehrig Funeral Home. time to be announced.

Rare Disease Fatal to 2-Year-Old in Dalton Area
A rare hemorrhagic measles claimed the life Sunday of two-year-old Larry Miller, son of farmers Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller, six teen miles east of Dalton. His twin Gary was hospitalized after falling ill Saturday. doctors reported him somewhat improved Sunday afternoon. Funeral arrangements for Larry were being planned.

New Skating Rink Planned for Sidney
Dr. C. W. Zike filed for a building permit to build a roller skating rink on west Illinois Street Sidney. The city council will consider the permit at the February 7 meeting. If approved, construction would begin promptly. The Zikes currently run a rink at Krueger's Lake on Tuesday evenings and Sundays with two shifts.

The 1947 March of Dimes drive ends January 30 with a charity ball at the city auditorium. Decker's Body Sent To Elk City Nebraska
The body of Lyle Decker, 36, who hanged himself in the city jail last Wednesday night, was taken to Elk City, Nebraska Friday night. Elk City is near Omaha. A Valley funeral parlor handles arrangements. Decker’s mother and relatives live in Elk City. He had lived around Sidney and Dalton and had recently returned from a trip to Alabama. He was placed in jail Wednesday evening and died by suicide several hours later, police report.

Babcock Seeks Driver License Fee Increase
Senator Ray Babcock has introduced a bill to double license fees for motor vehicles over the next two years. If approved, standard licenses would rise from $1 to $2 and replacement licenses would cost 50 cents instead of 25 cents. Other provisions would stay unchanged.
