Suspect In Assault Hangs Self in City Jail
A 36 year old suspect in a girl choking case hanged himself in the city jail after an attempted wrist slashing, police reported. Lyle Decker, a former farm hand and Navy man, was found early Thursday by Acting Police Chief Gelden. He used a trouser noose and fashioned a metal blade from a light socket to cut his wrists, but the wounds were not fatal. County Attorney Clinton, as coroner, ruled death by own action and no inquest was needed. Decker had been picked up Wednesday night on a molestation complaint. His body was taken to Gehrig Funeral Home. Decker’s estranged wife and two children live in California. Sheriff’s investigation showed he recently returned to Sidney from a stay away and had lived with friends on East Illinois Street. His mother resides in Elk City, Nebraska. Funeral arrangements await word from relatives.

$83 Per Acre Paid For Fastenau Farm
The 480 acre Fastenau farm five miles west of Gurley sold at referee's sale Tuesday afternoon for $83 per acre. The farm and a Gurley town lot brought $39,905. Paul L. Martin was referee and R. P. Kepler attorney. A. E. Linton bought one quarter and Adolf Fastenau bought the other half. The price keeps Cheyenne County farm land above $80 per acre, though not the highest in the past year.

Elvin Jim Beckner aged 46 a former watch repairman at The Gift Shop in Sidney died in a car crash near Valentine Sunday night. His car collided with a truck driven by Bill Burke of Martin South Dakota. Burke was uninjured and passenger Stanley Jackson of Valentine suffered only minor injuries.

Ralph T. Robertson of Potter received a bronze Carnegie Hero Fund Commission medal for rescuing 80-year old veterinarian Dr. Andrew J.
