Walking Hatch Thriller Ends With Stowell Victory

The lively walking match at the Casino rink featured G F McCarty and Frank Stowell. McCarty withdrew at 3:45 after two falls. referee Oscar Goodall ruled Stowell winner with 80 miles to 25. Wagering totaled $600 with a $100 purse and $140 gate. Mrs. Wright learns her daughter died in St Louis, prompting family bereavement and plans to travel southeast today.

Village Board Minutes and Army Pay Summary

The Silver Nebraska village board met January 19 1836 with most members present. W T Eubank was appointed village marshal at ten dollars per month. Treasurer E McLernon reported, committee to review. Several small bills approved for payment. Enlisted private Pearson discharged after three enlistments. Sergeant Schaack to be discharged in March with twenty days furlough and to work as cashier at Sidney bank. Fort Sidney pay delayed by Fort Robinson robbery. Col C M Ferrell paid. Local residents visited and traveled. Sheriff Eubank ran to Potter and rode home. Sergeant Schaack bought Rose street lots for residence.
