A Chadron Fort Robinson stage coach on Jan 11, 1886, was robbed seven miles west of Chadron of $16,000 in government funds destined for Fort Robinson. One man allegedly used a double barreled shotgun to seize the cash, aiding the heist.
County commissioners approve 1500 for a vault to protect priceless records and a tram building for clerk and commissioners offices. Move aims to house county business securely and reduce rent. Also notes Broken Bow merchants form protective society to refuse credit for bad payers and reports John Sherman’s 74 vote victory in an Ohio senate election.
