International Range Cattle and Horse Growers meet opens in Denver
The first International Range Cattle and Horse Growers convention begins at the Grand Opera house with about 2,000 delegates and stockmen from Texas to Mexico. Governor Eaton and Mayor Bates greet attendees, and Jumbo the 2,500 lb Galloway steer is presented to the gathering before being sent to the Colorado agricultural farm. Delegates hear papers on Railroad Rates of Transportation and Branding.

Dispatches from Fort Bowie report a clash near Nocori Sonora on January 11 in which Capt Crawford was mortally wounded and several scouts and Indians were also hurt.
