Nebraska defeats Oklahoma 63-58 on the strength of a 25 point effort from sophomore Jerry Fort and tight man to man defense. Larry Cox and Brendy Lee shadowed Alvan Adams as the Huskers snap a six game Sooners win streak.
Peetz overwhelmed Briggsdale 84-21 as they raced to a 37-9 first quarter lead and 50-14 at halftime. Led by Schumacher 20 and Roelle 18, Peetz out rebounded 53-20 and slowed Briggsdale to 19 percent shooting.
Sidney’s Brian Plank captured the 167 pound title at the Western Conference Wrestling Tournament in Alliance as the Raiders finished fourth with 52 points. Scott Lloyd and Plank were Sidney’s finalists, with Plank defeating Dave Christians of Gering 4-1 in the final, and Dan Kling earning a 3-1 overtime win for third at 145.
Ray Virgil of the Morrill County Sheriff's Posse Jaycees defeated Joe Dominguez of Sidney 3 0 in Scottsbluff to claim the most promising Class B boxer trophy and crown at 178 pounds then beat Dominguez to win the Class A 178-pound title.
WNTC Falls to Cheyenne five weeks after a previous win. Kent Brandenburg led with 24 points and Dan Stonebraker added 21 as WNTC trailed 42 37 at half. Next game is Monday the 28th at 7 30 p.m. on the WNTC campus against Eastern Wyoming.
