Self-Employed Tax Retirement Act Expands Deductions
The 89th Congress passed a revised Self-Employed Individuals Tax Retirement Act to take effect January 1, 1968. It offers farmers and other full-time self-employed persons a full income tax deduction on retirement plan contributions up to 2,500 dollars or 10 percent of gross income, whichever is less. The 30 percent earned income rule is removed, allowing 100 percent of net income to count as earned income for these deductions.
