Vandals Haunt U P Yards Three Boys To Be Charged
Union Pacific yards in Sidney faced a calm day after weeks of vandalism by youths. A railroad spokesman described two nerve wracking weeks with fuses and torpedoes stolen and exploded, train parts damaged, and brakes manipulated. At least 90 youths were questioned, with three boys aged 14 and 12 identified as the principal offenders. Cheyenne County Attorney John Peetz Dre planned charges, while rail officials urged parents to keep children away from tracks and reported hopes torpedoes were recovered.

63 County Retail Sales Hit 22.4 Million in 1963
The Commerce Department reports Cheyenne County had 189 retail concerns with total 1963 sales of 22.4 million. Sidney firms numbered 127 with 18.4 million in sales and 391 employees. payroll 1.8 million. Nebraska retail trade total 2.0 billion, up 21 percent since 1958, while firm counts fell from 16,819 to 16,057.

Far 4k Area Oil Discoveries Have Good Production Prospects
Production tests continue at an apparent oil discovery in Cheyenne County southwest of Dalton. Kimbark Exploration Co said perforations at 4856 64 feet filled 1 000 feet of oil in 16 hours from this zone. The No 1 Webster lies NE of Eddy Field with several new wells and offset attempts by Petroleum Inc and Marathon Oil nearby. Industry observers anticipate further pump tests and additional field tests as operators pursue offsetting wells and expansion in western Nebraska.

Feed Grain Sign Up To Start Soon In 1965 Program
Farmers may sign up for the voluntary 1965 Feed Grain Program in early February for seven weeks from February 8 to March 26. The program covers corn, grain sorghum, and barley with diversion and price support payments, requiring at least 20 percent of the feed grain base to be diverted to approved conservation use.

Tuesday Peetz Cub Scouts toured the Historical Association Museum in Sidney with Roy MacAdam president. They helped stamp out several freshly set fires in the building and recalled the event. Colorado arrests may help solve local burglaries
Logan County Colorado authorities link six arrests in Weld County to a burglary ring active in a three state area. A large amount of stolen goods valued over 70000 dollars was recovered. Cheyenne County Sheriff Schulz said stolen items are being checked to tie northeastern Colorado burglaries to local cases such as the Lumir Studnicka farm theft north of Potter.

Injured Youth To Hospital In Cheyenne
Dale Florke a 21 year old from Lodgepole was critically hurt in a head on collision at Lodgepole early Saturday. Transferred to DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne Monday afternoon unconscious with severe head injuries from the crash. He was a passenger in a car driven by John Hixon 20 who remains hospitalized in Sidney with facial and chest injuries and loss of teeth. The driver of the other car Mike Markel 16 and his passenger Jerry Frerichs 15 were released from the local hospital.

Panhandle forecast shows fair weather through Thursday
The Panhandle region is generally fair this afternoon tonight and Thursday with a low of 15 to 25 and a high of 45 to 55. The five day outlook indicates temperatures will average 8 to 12 degrees above normal through Monday.
Museum Fire Prevented By Chance Visit
Roy MacAdam, president of the Cheyenne County Historical Association, led Cub Scouts on a tour when arson fires were set in 13 rooms of the renovated Fort Sidney post home. He and the Scouts extinguished flames, saving most of the building with only the dining room table damaged. Police pursue suspects as volunteers plan caretaker duties and fundraising continues for 1966.
