Sunol resident Joe L. DeMers 78 died Friday at Memorial Hospital after a five day stay. Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church Lodgepole with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include son Kenneth and five grandchildren two great grandchildren two brothers John and Tom and a half brother Octave. DeMers born October 5 1886 in Jefferson South Dakota came to Sunol in 1916 and worked in the family grain elevator business until retirement in 1951.

Fire Chief Harvey Vizina lists four civilian deaths tied to Sidney Volunteer Fire Department calls in the year’s activities. One death followed the Huntsman Gas Plant explosion in Kansas Nebraska, with three further deaths linked to rescue calls. the city logged 68 fire calls, 272 truck hours, 1,420 firemen hours, 21 silent calls, two hose tests, 26 practices, four rescue calls, 12 investigations, and 48 inspections.

Hadda J. Hadden aged 74 of 1635 10th Avenue died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Henry Monnich officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born January 11, 1891 in Gilead Nebraska, married Francie Neemann in 1914, and lived in Gilead Lodgepole and Sidney. Survivors include his widow, three sons Albert Donald LeRoy all of Sidney, three daughters Edna Schlaman of Lodgepole and Evelyn Christensen Leora Jones of Sidney, 15 grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorials to Cancer Fund are designated.
