Carlson family exhibites champion Angus calves at Denver show

M. F. Carlson and Son of Lodgepole displayed a load of 20 feeder calves judged the champion Angus at the 1964 National Western Stock Show in Denver. Myron F. Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Carlson stand with the winners. The 507 pound calves sold for 57 cents per pound to John Hubly of Mason City Illinois.

Wet Forecast For Nebraska Panhandle Seeks Moisture Boost

Wheat farmers and others in the Nebraska Panhandle eye an above normal moisture forecast for the next thirty days as wind and dry soils threaten crops. County Agent Ivan Liljegren notes wind damage risk for exposed fields while government data show October soil moisture well below averages. meanwhile feed grain stocks reach new highs with corn and grain sorghum up, oats and barley down and Nebraska farm wheat storage up seven percent from a year ago.

Accidents In City Reported Collisions In Parking Lot

A collision at the Safeway parking lot was reported to Sidney Police at 5 10 p m. A 1960 Chevrolet driven by Keith R Vach was parked when a 1962 Ford driven by Michael V Timlin struck it. Damage to the Vach car was 825 dollars. Another crash at 2 30 p m last Thursday at 19th and Elm damaged two Fords, 1957 driven by Gertrude Rushman and 1959 driven by Annette Mae Meier, with Meier’s car sustaining 315 dollars in damage.

Annual Cheyenne County Hospital meeting set for Tuesday

The Cheyenne County Hospital Assn will hold its annual meeting Tuesday night at 7 30 in Memorial Hospital board room. Annual reports will be presented and five directors elected. Expiring terms: J J Jorgenson Dean Hagemaster Mrs Clarence Myers Guy V Doran and Mrs Gunhardt Olsen. Building fund contributors may participate in the meeting and election.

City Clarifies Antenna Permit Fee Is One Dollar

City officials said rumors of a $25 antenna permit are false. The ordinance requires a permit to erect an antenna but the fee is only one dollar.

Police Officer Dies In Sleep Rites Tuesday

Max E. Childers 44 of Sidney died in his sleep Saturday morning likely from a heart attack after working until 2 a.m. He served with the Sidney Police Department for years. Funeral services will be Tuesday Jan 21 at 2 p.m. from First Methodist Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. IOOF Lodge to conduct graveside rites. Memorial to First Methodist Church designated by the family. He was born Nov 22 1919 in Beaver City Neb and lived in Sidney since 1930. He married Clara Leon Cassidy Feb 13 1942 in Kimball. Survivors include his wife three daughters a brother a sister and his mother.

New Normal Board head named for State College system

E. K. Yanney, cashier of The First State Bank Lodgepole, was named Thursday as president of the State Normal Board at a reorganizational meeting. He succeeds Henry I. Freed and will oversee a reform including a new research and development committee. The board also reported multi-million dollar construction at four state teachers colleges with major upgrades at Peru Kearney Wayne Chadron and others along with oil and gas discoveries in Cheyenne and Kimball counties.

Mrs. Damm 79 dies. rites set Thursday

Mrs. Lambertus J. Damm, 79, died Sunday night in Memorial Hospital after residence in Cheyenne County. Funeral services are Thursday Jan 23 at 10 a.m. from Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev Henry Monnich officiating and Greenwood Cemetery burial. She was born April 30 1884 in Nokomis Illinois to Aljet and Cornelia Detmer and married Lambertus J. Damm in 1905. She is survived by her husband two daughters two sisters one brother twelve grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

More than 800 head of cattle sold Saturday at The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion in a special sale. It was the largest sale in 18 months, with steady market quotes for stock and feeder cattle and cows. Three carloads went to eastern feedlots, the rest to local feeders. another sale is planned in February.

Mrs. C. Borcher Dies After 50 Years in Cheyenne County

Caroline Borcher 88 died Saturday in Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. A 50 year resident of Cheyenne County she lived in Memorial Rest Name the past 18 months.
