Egging Co Builds Farm Cab Industry In Gurley Nebraska
The Egging Co. on the Egging farm east of Gurley grows into a regional tractor cab producer. From a 1957 single cab with 200 manhours the firm aims for 1500 cabs in 1964 while cutting manhours per cab to under 40. Production peaks in spring with 300 cabs planned before March 1 and orders arriving at eight to ten daily. The plant employs 38 to 40 workers, now over fifty with two shifts, stockpiles cabs, ships nationwide and to Canada, and plans a Canada sales network. The firm uses 420 tons of steel, 70 tons of glass, and 1200 gallons of paint last year. No full time salesmen, staff say every worker and user is a salesman. Ted and John Egging lead production with Allan Karnik handling sales. The company has introduced health plans and profit sharing and plans more factory reps abroad.

The Sidney Community Hotel Corp. reelected Carl Christ Sr Frank Mattoon John Peetz Jr Guy V. Doran and W J Robinson to the board at the annual meeting. Treasurer George Barlow reported mortgage debt fell from 185000 to 137000 as the first and second loans amortize and the third was retired. Principal retirement is 750 monthly and will rise as interest declines. The hotel property remains in excellent condition and officials see improving prospects despite no near term stock returns.

Alice Mary McLaughlin 61 of Broadwater died early Friday in Memorial Hospital after two weeks of illness. A memorial funds the Broadwater Presbyterian Church. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. from Broadwater Presbyterian with burial at Broadwater Cemetery. Mrs McLaughlin taught 25 years including nine at Sioux Army Depot. Survived by daughter Eolyn Gillespie, three sisters, one brother, and five grandchildren.

Six teenagers suffered cuts and bruises when a 1960 Valiant driven by Linda Sue Mitchell 17 left the east side of the cafe approach, overturned onto its top and dropped into a deep ditch along Highway 30 near the Taco House east of Sidney at 10 p.m. Thursday.

Three County School Merger Decision Soon
Chappell Nebraska State School Reorganization Director Hubert Wolfe said the proposed Big Springs merger plan likely will go to the Nebraska School Reorganization Committee on January 22. The plan, approved 9 to 10 last week by a joint three county committee, moves to Deuel County for local approval before reaching the state committee, affecting eight rural Deuel elementary districts, one in Keith, one in Perkins, and the Big Spring rural high school district.

District 97 to Rebuild After Christmas Fire
District 97 patrons decide to rebuild the rural school gutted by fire on Christmas night. Insurance may cover most costs. students will use the old District 56 building near the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church for now. Deputies recovered a battered cash register stolen Tuesday from a Gurley grocery store. Found Thursday in a field about a mile south and three miles east of Gurley, the unit appeared forced open with only 51 cents inside. Deputy Sheriff Gene Morris located the item during area searches.
