State Barber Law Is Held Unconstitutional
Nebraska district judge Herbert Rhoades ruled the state barber law unconstitutional in Omaha. He found discrimination against women and a faulty title. The decision arose after Robert Siegman, an Omaha beauty parlor operator, was arrested for working without a license. He argued he was not a barber and did not wish to be listed as such. The law's drafting followed a Finnian statute but used different terminology in key places.
