Nebraska plan seeks 75 percent guaranty fund relief
The Nebraska guaranty fund commission proposes a constitutional amendment to demand immediate stockholder liability upon bank closure, limits on interest on claims, and continued supervision by a governor-appointed board of seven bankers. It calls for state taxation to cover deficits, amending the guaranty law to protect only 15 percent of depositor money, and abolition of the fund after payment of debt, with Governor Weaver and others backing the plan. Senator James Rodman urges paying current indebtedness then repealing the law, arguing the fund is insolvent and the state must reform the entire banking system.
