Kenneth Van Skike, Cheyenne County agent since June 1949, takes leave of absence to report February 8 to Brooks Army Medical Center Fort Sam Houston San Antonio Texas. Slaughter Is Freed By Jury After Deliberation
After nearly 14 hours of deliberation a jury found George E. Sparky Slaughter of Alliance not guilty of complicity in the $1000 Hallowe'en robbery of the Frandsen Liquor Store in Dal ton. Slaughter admitted buying $245 worth of whiskey from James Hubbard but denied knowledge of the robbery. Hubbard was found guilty of grand larceny. Jessie Villaneuva pleaded guilty to perjury, fined $300 plus costs. Alfred Lucky Michens faces dismissal for lack of evidence while serving a 90 day bootlegging sentence.

The Platte Pipe Line Company of Independence Kansas awarded construction contracts totaling nearly 8.5 million dollars for a 1072 mile 20 inch crude line from Wyoming to Wood River St Louis area. Total project cost estimated at 60 million with additional awards for rock excavation and extra services bringing near total to 10.5 million excluding two river crossings. Participating firms include British American Oil Continental Ohio Pure Sinclair with production in Wyoming and Rockies. The line will exceed local refinery demand by about 90000 barrels daily and connect with most Wyoming pipelines and major midwest systems. Two Injured In Wreck Sunday Near Gurley
Two Scottsbluff women suffered bad bruises and shock when a 1949 DeSoto overturned after a left rear tire blew out at about 6:30 p m Sunday two miles west of Gurley. Sheriff W W Schulz reported Darlene Lindley the driver and Fern Rogers were injured, while their children were unharmed. Vehicle damage was about 450 dollars and a large spike was found in the tire.

H L Johnson of Fairfield Illinois sought permission to operate a trucking line for Cheyenne County oil fields in a hearing before J Max Harding Nebraska Railway Commission chief examiner. Gas Discovery Boosts Deuel County Gas Potential
A new discovery at Reese No 1, fifteen miles east of Chappell, near Big Springs, could yield at least five million cubic feet per day. It would be the third Deuel County well of similar capacity, extending the pool northward about two and a half miles pending fault checks. Thirteen proved wells are anticipated across Cheyenne and Deuel counties with potential output near 150 million cubic feet daily as more drilling is planned this spring.

Leroy M. Spencer alias Oliver M. Rowland, 33, now in Cheyenne County jail on charges of writing an $800 no account check on the American National Bank and passing it at Hahler Motor Company as a down payment for a 1948 Buick. He was arrested in Nampa Idaho after a tour through southern states and was brought back by Sheriff W. W. Schulz. The car remains in Nampa to be claimed by a local garage representative. Spencer, once a cafe cook, reportedly left town after obtaining the auto. Sheriff Schulz cited Spencer as an ex convict wanted for escaping from the Washington State reformatory. An Nampa patrolman who arrested Spencer, Walter Cox, is a former Sidney resident, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cox.
