Potter community men plan a kitchen detail on Thursday January 20 to serve about two hundred at the Potter Legion Hall starting at seven. Tickets at Rose Hardware and Potter Sundry are $1.25. Membership of Cubs and Scouts in the Wye-Braska Bay Scout council grew by 271 in 1948. Scout Executive Paul Brooks announced the year end total of 2,458 on January 1, 1949, with all 12 districts posting gains. Victory district led with 43 percent, Garden district added 39 boys to reach 128, and several districts posted double digit increases.

Examinations will be held at 8 30 Saturday morning in the Cheyenne County courthouse courtroom. High school seniors may take the tests and if they earn 12 college hours at summer school they may begin teaching in September. The tests are not for those who already hold certificates.

The Sidney Business and Professional Women's club marked its eighteenth anniversary at a post holiday meeting at Hazel's Cafe. Funeral services set for 2 o'clock this Friday for Miss Anna Gail Schmehl 380 who died at a local hospital after a two year illness. Rites at Craig Mortuary with Rev Walter Jewett in charge. Remains to be sent to Arlington Nebraska for burial in family plot. Born December 14 1868 in Beardstown Illinois she lived in Arlington Potter Colton area before moving to the Colton community. Survived by brother William G Schmehl and sister Mrs Mary Barnard of Hughston California.

By January 10, Sidney had collected $609.35 from Christmas Seal sales. Miss Mable Nielsen, chairwoman of the drive under the Sidney Business and Professional Women’s club sponsorship, reported 1,671 seats mailed with 665 responses. Donations continue to be accepted to possibly exceed last year’s total for tuberculosis prevention and treatment.

Snow Blamed For A Series Of Auto Crashes
Multiple snow related car accidents were reported around Sidney and nearby roads. A 1946 Kaiser driven by Henry Blyme collided with a 1946 Reo semi truck driven by Griffith H. Davis Jr. on Highway 19 north of Huntsman, causing about 350 dollars in damage. Icy streets also damaged a 1948 Chevrolet after a 1947 Kaiser skidded into it driven by Melvin Davis. Another three-car crash at Illinois and 19th streets involved A F Whitmire, Alois Davis and Don Green when snow drifts forced the Dodge to stop and the Ford struck the rear. A 1941 Chevrolet in front of Bergner’s Garage was damaged by a 1948 International pickup. A separate incident on Highway 30 left only the Dodge damaged when a city snow truck caused the impact.

CAA Operators Schedule Weather Teletype Downtime
The CAA station west of Sidney will provide weather information to the public but two times each hour service cannot be offered. At 15 and 45 minutes past the hour the teletype circuit ties up the operator for about four minutes, delaying telephone calls. Mercy Flight Delivers Aid To Blizzarded Kreinbrings
