Ancient Logan Creek campsite reveals archaic hunters in Nebraska

Archaeologists from the Nebraska State Historical Society uncovered a six to eight thousand year old nomadic camp along Logan Creek near Oakland Nebraska. Excavations from 1957 to 1963 uncovered eight occupation zones with bone and stone tools, reed shelters uncertain, and evidence of buffalo hunting and shellfish gathering. Carbon fourteen dating places the site at about 6065 to 8025 years ago. The finds show east to plains contact between archaic hunters and western bison groups, marking a new Nebraska archaeology chapter.
