Joe Nelson 55 longtime Potter farmer and former Cheyenne County commissioner died after a three year illness from a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Monday in the Potter Methodist Church with Rev. O D Hoagland and Rev. Paul Janson officiating. Burial followed in Potter Cemetery under Gehrig Funeral Home. Survivors include Mae Stewart Nelson widow two children Jean Wills Potter and Harry Coates Salt Lake City Utah a brother Emil Nelson Potter and sister Mrs Ann Lueninghoener Hooper Nebraska.

Sidney Man Pete Rabe Named Navy Non Military Aide
Sidney resident Captain Leroy D. Pete Rabe, son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Rabe, has been named non military aide to Secretary of the Navy Robert B Anderson. Rabe, 31, Marine Corps veteran with service in World War II and Korea, will start January 19 after most recently serving at Camp Pendleton Oceanside California.

In 1952 Nebraska counties saw twenty-one counties with no traffic fatalities while Cheyenne County tallied thirteen deaths, fourth highest in the state. A April wreck killed five, exceeding most counties for the year. No. 30 highways carried much of east west traffic, but were deemed inadequate for current speeds and loads. State officials urged funding to widen and modernize main routes.

Two Auto Accidents Cause Heavy Property Damage
Early Sunday two Nebraska crashes caused heavy property damage. Frank L. Bresnahan of Sidney drove a 1942 Hudson off the road near the Sioux Ordnance Depot, clipped eight guard rails, then hitchhiked into Sidney after reporting the incident. He was fined $5 and costs for leaving the scene. A 1952 International oil truck driven by Gordon Lewis of Sterling skidded on slick pavement on Highway 30 near Sidney, jackknifed and went into an east borrow pit causing $250 damage to the cab with no injuries.

Juvenile burglars held after Powell Hardware burglary
Two boys aged 12 and 13 were arrested in Sidney after attempting to sell a newly stolen wrist watch at a local jewelry store. Police and county attorney said the holiday burglary, which also involved two rifles and shells, netted about 150 dollars in merchandise. The youths will face juvenile court next Wednesday with their parents requested to explain the incident.

The November session of jury hearings resumes Monday but is postponed again to Thursday. Jurymen will report to hear the condemnation case over the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds property valued at about 2500 by appraisers. Judge I J Nisley presides with Robert Nelson for the state and county attorney Jack Knicely for the county. Other cases likely move to February under Judge John Kuns, including theft and breaking and entering at Star Packing, third offense driving while intoxicated, and motor vehicle homicide cases.

The newly elected Cheyenne County Hospital Association board will convene Thursday at 7 30 PM in the John Deere building to organize for the year. Ira Steward, current chairman, will preside and name officers as representatives from state and federal health services attend with criticisms and suggestions on plans for the sixty bed hospital. Subscriptions since late November total about nine thousand dollars, raising the overall total to around 338 thousand dollars with more expected.

Castleberry Held Under 24 Hour Guard After Wounding
Z H Castleberry aged 28 is under 24 hour guard at University Hospital with a right arm wound after fleeing Colorado state trooper Roy Moore near Sedgwick Colorado and being arrested in Sidney. He is held on a $2000 bond by Cheyenne County court on a forged instrument charge and sought in connection with passing worthless checks. Douglas County sheriff’s office provides the guard and arranged treatment. The chase began after a check was attempted in Ogallala on a blank stolen from an elevator in Paxton Nebraska December 9, leading into Colorado.
