A Cheyenne County meeting drew 500 to 660 attendees to discuss the Soil Bank farm retirement program. ASC officials led with Acreage Reserve and Conservation Reserve options, then introduced a 30 million dollar national first-year fund and a 5 or 19 year bid program. Meetings Set Soon To Boost Safflower Acres

Pacific Vegetable Oil Corp and Pacific Oilseeds Inc announce a campaign to boost safflower farming in western Nebraska northeastern Colorado and eastern Nebraska. Kendell Woodward is appointed resident field agent to coordinate farmer meetings January 2 to 31 and arrange storage testing and contracts with Sidney mill cooperation with Agricultural Extension Service. Merchants Urged To Post Names In Case Of Fire

Sidney merchants urged to post name and contact on front door to identify owners during fires. Deputy fire chief Bob Nessle cites a downtown blaze where smoke obscured lines of ownership and firefighters could not confirm who operated adjacent stores. TV Tax Refund Checks Are Due

Partial refund checks for federal tax paid by Sidney Community TV subscribers through Aug 31 were mailed today. Citywide refunds likely total between 17000 and 29000 dollars after all rents settle, with a 6 cent monthly tax previously charged on bills being challenged. A microwave system outage has persisted for weeks but should be fixed within a week.

School Improvement Meeting January 13

A Cheyenne County meeting of the Nebraska School Improvement Assn will be held in the Sunol schoolhouse Monday Jan 13 at eight o clock. At least one member of the state board of directors will be present to explain the organization s purposes and aims. A petition will be circulated asking a vote at the next general election to put the State Director of Education on an elective rather than appointive basis. Two Accidents in Nebraska Reported by Patrol

Nebraska Safety Patrol reported two car crashes on Saturday January 4. A two car collision on Highway 30 thirteen miles west of Sidney involved Ray J. Ham driving a semi truck and Billy G. Stalcup in a passenger car. both drivers escaped serious injury with $50 damage to each vehicle. An icy road single vehicle crash occurred twenty six miles west of Longpole Bay Ramsey where a 1954 car driven by Senne skidded off the highway, overturning. the driver was not seriously hurt and the car sustained about $1,200 damage.
