Thieves break into Iliff liquor store during owner’s funeral

Three unidentified men broke a window at Korrey Liquor Store in Iliff Colorado while owner George Korrey attended his mother’s funeral in Sterling. A Crook man saw one inside handing out liquor to two outside as a 1953 green Chevrolet Bel Air with Nebraska plates fled. Deputies traced the car but could not locate it.

Condemnation Of Land For 30 Begun In Kimball

The state highway department has begun condemning land in Kimball County for the US 30 reroute with two suits filed in county court. One suit names five individuals and one corporation. another names three individuals. Hearings set for Jan 19. A three-person board of appraisers was appointed to assess the land for a potential future cloverleaf by pass. State cash offers were made but not yet accepted. Construction contract has been let and work is expected to start soon.

Board chair Ira Steward notes the project is tight but funds from local drives and a federal match push ongoing. occupancy projected by April. County bankers hailed for bond drive success in Cheyenne

Glenn Cunningham praised Cheyenne County leaders for surpassing 1954 bond quotas with a 151 percent overage in the first 11 months. He credited local bankers for sustaining the government bond program that funds inflation control and debt reduction, noting Cheyenne Countians hold about 12 million dollars in bonds yielding 300 thousand annually.

Iowan Admits City Breakins in North Platte Case

Jake William Mussig a 24 year old from Stanwood Iowa confessed to 20 break ins across Iowa Nebraska and Kansas including two Sidney Nebraska burglaries at Beckman Motors and Triska Mobile Station. He pled guilty on two counts in Cheyenne County Court and was bound over on 2000 bond. Authorities recovered a .22 pistol and cash from his possession.

City Port Runways See Brisk Business at Sidney Airport

City Manager Murrey Fuller reports 884 aircraft landings from August to November 1954 at Sidney Municipal Airport not counting based aircraft. An annual 2,900 to 3,000 landings are estimated. Runways are dirt and slated for concrete upgrade if a $25,000 bond passes January 27. Federal and state funds totaling $75,000 are offered for the project. If the bond fails, funds fall away and current runways remain. Fuller notes traffic surprised him. Four-month breakdown includes 556 transient landings and 116 by foreign based businesses.

Valley View Phone Service Resumption Expected

A six p.m. resumption was forecast for Valley View Addition in southeast Sidney after a construction crew cut an underground phone cable. Northwestern Bell manager J KR Miller said 174 phones were affected and noted a contractor was trenching for a sewer line when the break occurred. The company announced the outage on KSID to curb incoming calls.

Bond Filed Collier Plans Start of TV Construction

Collier Electric Co of Denver filed a 25000 bond with Sidney city to start community TV construction next week. Officials Krummels and Lewis are on site. attorney Thorpe represents Collier locally. Construction may begin Monday or Tuesday with three guaranteed channels and potential two more. City mayor Tompson signed the contract. bond and public liability policies filed as proof of good faith. Initial wiring on poles shared with Northwestern Bell. TV service expected in about 150 days with max installation cost 120 and monthly rent not to exceed 4 50.
