FUGITIVE CASTLEBERRY CHARGED WITH FORGED CHECK IN SIDNEY
A 28 year old fugitive, first using the name Jack Seely, was captured by county and city officers near Sidney after a two state flight from Ogallala and Paxton. He suffered a badly shattered arm from a Colorado patrol shooting and faces charges in Sidney for uttering a forged instrument while other states pursue jail breaking and other counts. The suspect admitted to a Paxton post office break in and other thefts, and the FBI questioned him as authorities traced his movements across Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas.

59 Ton Transformer Is Hauled By Truck
A 59 ton transformer believed to be the largest single freight moved by truck to Ogallala was hauled last Tuesday from Grant to a new Bureau of Reclamation substation two miles southeast. Rated 7500 KVA, it is the largest in any Bureau substation and required a backroad route due to bridge limits. Meyer Transfer of Sidney carried the overland haul, claiming it was their biggest move yet.

The 1953 Sidney Chamber of Commerce board approved plans for a five day member drive beginning Monday January 12. Six two person teams aim to raise 15000 dollars and add 400 members, with 52 members already paid totaling 2680 dollars. Prizes reward top signups and a 12 member team and spouse dinner at the Country Club awaits those who bring in 300 members. The drive targets 422 potential members including farmers, with current farmer members at five. Nativity Scene to Stay Open Through Sunday Night
By Sunday night this week the Nativity Scene at the Ernest Wickard farm west of Lodgepole reports 5700 visitors and the Wickards will keep the display up through Sunday January 11. The March of Dimes collection has reached 1142 dollars, the largest since it joined the display three years ago. Visitors came from across the nation and beyond, with groups from Lodgepole Lutheran Sunday School, Hamburg Germany, and Honolulu Hawaii. The Wickards thank all helpers and contributors, calling the project a community effort.
