John B Kurz 68 a Sidney native died at his home Monday night of a heart attack He farmed south of Sunol and was born June 17 1887 in Sidney He married Emily Boyer in Denver October 4 1911 Surviving are two sons four daughters and 26 grandchildren Funeral services set for 9 am Saturday at St Patrick s Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Government Crop Loan Deadline Nears for 1955 Crops

The Cheyenne County Agriculture Stabilization office warns farmers there is a Jan 31 deadline to obtain Commodity Credit Corp loans or purchase agreements for 1955 crops including wheat barley oats sorghums rye soybeans flaxseed and dry edible beans. Corn loans close May 31. Eligibility requires compliance with last year’s acreage program.

Cheyenne County District Court Fixes 4 Jury Terms

Judges John Kuns and I J Nisley set four term dates for Cheyenne County District Court this year. Jury sessions begin January 30, April 30, September 4 and November 5, with January and November terms for juries and April and September terms as equity divisions.

Early Settler In Dalton Area Buried Today

Mrs. Caroline Hartman Reinmuth age 92 longtime Dalton resident died Sunday at home. She was born in Muscatine Iowa on September 8 1863 and wed J W Reinmuth April 22 1883. Burial followed at Dalton with services at Dalton Presbyterian Church Canaday Funeral Home Bridgeport in charge Survivors include four sons three daughters many grandchildren and great grandchildren arranged across several towns including Bridgeport Sidney Broadwater and Dalton Per family records her steady settlement began in 1901 and the couple moved to Dalton in 1933.

Cheyenne Man Robbed of Bonds and Camera

Gerald Mick, a Cheyenne railroader, had his car robbed at Brownson Sunday night. Thieves pried open the glove compartment, taking $650 in government savings bonds and a camera. The sheriff noted the incident likely occurred before 7 p.m.. doors were unlocked but the glove box was locked.

Sidney studies expanded air routes with seven state petition

Sidney plans to broaden airline service by joining a seven state petition to the Civil Aeronautics Board for a north south and east west network. Nebraska led efforts with state and city officials, detailing routes from Casper to Omaha and Denver to Omaha with stops, while Sidney keeps its Denver connection.

Farmers Union Sets Annual Meet Jan. 11

Annual meeting of Cheyenne County Farmers Union is scheduled Wednesday January 11 in the Legion Room Sidney City Auditorium. Sidney Public Schools See Enrollment Stabilize After Decline

Enrollment in Sidney public and parochial schools has leveled near 2,400 total students, with 1,881 in K-12 and 1,189 in grades seven through six. The grades 7-12 loss totals 35, with 23 new pupils and 58 dropouts since opening.

Police Chief Sol Willis reports two separate weekend accidents injuring three people. Dollie L. Pierce 28 of Lodgepole suffered extensive head injuries and will face charges after a three vehicle collision on Illinois Street. Another crash near Sidney on Highway 19 left Wilbur O. Doctor Revives Man After Heart Stoppage in Hospital

Clarence Willis a 55 year old man from Potter survived a dramatic incident at Memorial Hospital. In the emergency room his heart stopped while two men assisted. A local doctor, unnamed in reports, injected adrenalin directly into Willis’ heart and restored the rhythm, with Willis now near ready to leave.

New Registry For City Postmastership To Be Established

Weldon Stewart will continue as acting postmaster in Sidney until a new civil service registry is set up for a permanent appointment. John Peetz Jr., chairman of the Cheyenne County Republican Central Committee, announced after a call with Rep. A. L. Miller in Washington that no date for establishing the registry is known and thus no qualified list is yet available.

Halliburton Opens New Plant in Sterling

Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Co. opens a $145 000 plant at Sterling including an office building. The firm will run nine trucks from Sterling to support brisk oil development in northeastern Colorado. Halliburton also operates plants in Sidney Kimball and Port Morgan.

Fire at Franzen Pool Treater Causes Insurance Covered Loss

A New Year’s Eve blaze at the Franzen Oil Field treater near Sidney damaged equipment used by four wells. High winds fed flames to natural gas, exploding a doghouse near the theater. Clarence Castner of General Resources, Limited said the loss is fully insured. Firefighters from Sidney, nine miles east and six miles north, battled the blaze for hours. A separate afternoon fire south of Lodgepole Creek damaged a pile of lumber owned by C. S. Radcliffe, possibly started by children playing nearby.

Arapahoe Pipe Plans System Expansion in 3 Acquisitions

Arapahoe Pipe Line Co announces expansion plans effective Jan 31. The company will acquire about 33 miles of 10 inch crude oil pipeline from Adena Field Colorado to Merino with gathering lines from Pawnee Pipe Line Co, a 42 mile 8 inch line from Little Beaver Field to Merino, plus 345 miles of oil field gathering lines in Kansas and Nebraska joining the main trunk from northeastern Colorado and Nebraska to Humboldt Kansas.
