Six Million Power Line Proposal Near Sidney

Final sessions of the Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association here elected three directors and approved an engineering plan for two high voltage transmission lines. The plan calls for a 230000 kilovolt line from Stegall to Sidney and a 115000 kilovolt line from Ogallala to Paxton, Neb. Construction requires Rural Electrification Administration loan funds of about six million dollars. The project would make Tri-State a major operating utility and marks a shift from broker to owner of transmission lines. Arthur J. Schnose received a ten year service certificate. he was named president of Tri-State after the meeting, with Oscar Yoder as vice president and Wayne Bond as treasurer.

Sidney St Patrick’s fell in overtime to St Patrick’s North Platte, ending its Class C bid as Sidney High’s Maroons move to Class A action.

Carol Clark to Study in Spain University of Madrid stay

Carol Clark daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Clark of Sidney leaves Saturday for Madrid Spain to enter the University of Madrid for a Spanish major and to study through May 1966 semester credit from the University of Colorado will be allowed upon her return. She will be met by advisor Dona Rosario Sanchez de Valduz and live with her before moving to a professor family. Miss Clark expects to teach Spanish at the high school level after graduation and notes Americans reluctance to learn foreign languages.

Sioux Army Depot manpower program may expand after Congress acts

Sioux Army Depot plans to extend its Sid ney Occupational Training School with possible expansion if Congress extends the Federal manpower training act beyond next June 30. As of now 136 students enroll with about 10,000 dollars weekly cost. the depot expects broader federal funding and longer program years to add courses such as heavy equipment maintenance.

Sidney Man Is Accident Victim

Sidney resident Jackie Shaffer, a Western Bridge Construction Co. employee, was killed when the Caterpillar he was driving overturned onto a truck near Harrison. The 33 year old was active in Moose Lodge and community affairs. funeral plans are pending with Curtis Funeral Home. His mother resides in Moorfield Neb. Shaffer had recently moved to Sidney and was not married.
