Bids for the new Sidney public library will be opened at 10 a.m. Wednesday March 31 after the city council approved plans and specifications. Estimated cost 118460 funded by city and Federal sources. The building will mirror the municipal structure nearby and include a large garage area for two bookmobiles. City Manager Toi Coffey urged prompt start after award.

First To Enroll In Sidney Business Institute
Howard Lile announced the first two registrants for the new Business Institute of Sidney. Gayle Smith, a Sidney High senior, will graduate in May and enrolls in the Executive Secretarial Course with the Nancy Taylor Finishing Course. John Bergner, also a senior, will graduate in May and studies Higher Accounting and Business Administration. Both plan a 1.5 to 2 year program. Farmers Want Change in Wheat and Feed Grain Programs
A Farm Journal poll of five thousand subscribers finds a majority of farmers unsatisfied with current wheat and feed grain support. About 25 percent back the present wheat program, 40 percent want a land retirement and market-based price plan, and 35 percent favor no program at all. For feed grains 29 percent approve the current voluntary program, 3 percent want compulsory support, 35 percent want price supports at 90 percent of a three year average with land retirement, and 4 percent prefer no program. 85 percent favor tighter meat import rules, 65 percent back land retirement, 35 percent support diversions of acres, 43 percent oppose direct payments, 18 percent want more direct payments, 13 percent want fewer, and 26 percent favor the present plans. A 96 percent majority backs a constitutional amendment to allow states to apportion one house by basis other than population.

Three Hurt In Collision With Pole
Three youths were injured when their car crashed into a light pole at 7 06 p m Monday at 19th and Maple in Sidney. Driver Bonnie J Countryman 16 sustained knee cuts and a back injury while Greg Orton 14 and James Countryman 14 suffered leg cuts and bruises. Car damage was about 360 with no pole damage. The driver reportedly accelerated by mistake while turning to speak to back-seat passengers. A separate early morning crash at 2222 Cheyenne Road involved a runaway parked 1960 Cadillac colliding with a parked 1964 Ford, causing 75 and 206 in damages respectively.

Fred Runge Dies After Long Illness in Sidney
Frederick Albert Runge 61 lifelong Sidney resident and Union Pacific veteran died at home after a year and a half of poor health from an apparent heart attack. Born April 17 1903 in Sidney he served in World War I as the youngest Nebraskan and fourth youngest in the nation. He married Marie Hostettler March 14 1923. Funeral services are pending at Gehrig Son Funeral Home. Surviving are his widow three daughters one brother a number of sisters and ten grandchildren. one son Gerald preceded him in 1928.
