Sidney Junior High Auditorium hosts Potterites as players and boosters are celebrated. East-side seating fills with supporters while students take the stage for honors and cheers. Details on the sports page.
The Egging Co of Sidney plans to double its tractor and cab plant this year adding 24 000 square feet possibly starting in April. Brothers Ted and John Egging say the expansion could require at least fifty new workers to reach a goal of ten thousand cabs annually. The details headline a special progress supplement in this issue.
PVO's Sidney plant processes 4800 bushels of soybeans daily and has stock to March. If more beans are contracted, the run could extend. Purchases occur mainly in central Nebraska with buys also in South Dakota Wyoming Colorado and Nebraska. A Lincoln plant planned for 34000 bushels daily may affect bean prices. Cramby is produced for protein and oil while safflower remains but diversifies to sustain the season.
Mayor J L Thorpe said Sidney will benefit from a Hastings visit focused on using land and facilities at the abandoned Hastings Naval Depot. The group compared notes with Hastings, noting similar legal snag s for acquiring property outside city limits. Hastings uses Nebraska Industrial Act incentives to draw industry, a path Sidney aims to follow with legal guidance from City Attorney L M Clinton. The trip was described as profitable and the city hopes to apply Hastings experiences.
Educational Service Unit 19 held a training meeting in Chappell with L E Lydiatt announcing the Slosson test will identify students who need supplementary training. Testing will begin soon in Chappell and finish by April 1. A next session for rural teachers in Potter is set for March 9 at 7 30 p m with testing to follow in Cheyenne and Kimball counties.
Albin R Olson of Lodgepole aged 81 died Thursday in a Hastings Nebraska hospital. Services at Immanuel Lutheran Church Lodgepole Monday at 2 p.m. Rev Alvin Danielson officiating. Burial Lodgepole Cemetery. Born August 9 1885 in Helsengberg Sweden came to the United States in 1910. Navy veteran of World War I. Married Lillie Peterson Aud August 6 1923 in Sterling Colorado. Survivors: his wife and several nieces and nephews. Craig Holechek Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce retail committee unveils a month by month 1967 schedule. Highlights include August Centennial Days and Cheyenne County Fair integration, August Deadwood Trail Ride, and Golden Gift Days returning for the Christmas season.
Verbal approval for Memorial Hospital and Home expansion came from the Nebraska Department of Health Hospitals Division. Administrator Darold Hendee said written approval will follow in a few days after meetings in Lincoln with Verne Pangborn. Howard Duncan and Ray Cruise, chair of the building committee, reported plans include an 18 bed addition, boiler relocation and enlargement, and a larger kitchen. bids are hoped to be invited in March and opened by month’s end.
The Telegraph runs a limited allotment of progress supplements in today’s edition. Two thousand copies have been ordered by the Chamber of Commerce for community promotion, with some distributed to the public, especially members.
