Highway 30 upgrades eyed for Sidney region

Nebraska State Highway Engineer Harold Aitken outlined a two year plan prioritizing four Highway No. 30 projects including concrete paving Sidney to Lodgepole dependent on new revenue. The proposal covers Kimball to Cheyenne County line, Chappell to Lodgepole, and Maxwell area paving with total improvements around 11 million dollars plus state funds and possible 60 million cost if maintenance remains unchanged.

Area Lions Session Set

Lions District Cabinet meeting led by District Governor Dr Wray Mac Russell of Scottsbluff will gather at Sidney Country Club next Sunday afternoon and evening March 1 for a quarterly planning session. About 62 district officers regional heads and club officials attend. 3 pm business session with entertainment for ladies then a 5 pm banquet.

Connors to Leave Sidney for Greeley County Practice

Attorney Harold E. Connors said he will leave Sidney March 1 to open a private law practice in Greeley Nebraska and will also become county attorney of Greeley County. He previously partnered with Heaton in Sidney and has FBI and veteran background. The move follows the death of P J Barrett, the former county attorney. Connors has served as deputy county judge in Cheyenne County during judge Barlow's absences.

Court of Honor for Scout Troop 86 at Sioux Ordnance Depot

Production casing was to be run Monday at the Krueger No 3 on the Charles Krueger farm six miles west of Sidney. The hole, to 5 037 feet, may yield 9 to 12 feet of pay sand. No. 2 J sand test shows mud recovery at 4 901 to 4 910 feet. No 2 reports oil 1 419 feet and water 240 feet in the D sand.

Uni Experts To Talk At Kimball Meeting

Two livestock authorities from the University ag college will speak at a Kimball cattlemen meeting on Wednesday March 4. William Derrick and Dr. Leslie Johnson of the Animal Husbandry Department will cover cattle feeding and management and report on Fort Robinson experiments. Attendees from Wyoming Colorado and Nebraska expected. program starts 1:30 p.m. at the Kimball County courthouse.

Slaying Term Is Commuted

North Platte Man Is Held For Burglary

Robert Williams, a Union Pacific employee, was arrested Friday by North Platte authorities on burglary charges. He is accused of taking fishing tackle a shotgun and other items from a fishing shack. Some articles were found in his possession. He was held for North Platte authorities who planned to fetch him over the weekend.

Snowbound Sidney Grapples With Weekend Blizzard

Western Nebraska communities spent the weekend digging out after a Thurs blizzard that dumped eleven inches in Sidney. The city used a new rotary snow remover and hired truckers to clear downtown and residential streets. Several motorists and bus passengers sheltered at the City Auditorium. 15 motorists were rescued by Sidney volunteers near Highway 19. No casualties were reported.
