Farm Machinery Industry Shows Better Balance This Year
The February issue of Implement & Tractor notes a stronger buyers market and balanced retailer stocks, with prewar levels across lines. Production remains firm though large tractors face pressure, while steel supply eases and employment stays high. Surpluses grow in wheat and cotton, parity debates continue, and 1948 company records rise for International Harvester, John Deere, and J I Case.

VFW official blasts Rankin pension bill in Washington
Nebraska VFW commander L. J. Gaughen condemned Rep. Rankin’s proposed veterans pension bill as highly impractical and costly. He urged Nebraska congressmen to oppose the measure, seek committee action or amendments, and noted the plan would grant automatic $90 monthly pensions at age 65 to World War I and II veterans regardless of income. The five day VFW state commanders meeting in Washington included discussions of a compromise pension proposal.
