County's Cash Balances Set Record Mark
County Treasurer Herbert Stevens reports the county’s cash balances on January 1 reached a record high at $640,600.76 across all funds, largely in war bonds earning about $20 daily interest and totaling near $80,000 at maturity. The American National Bank of Kidney held $319,176.25, with remaining funds in three other county banks plus on hand cash. For the six months ending December 31, 1948, treasurer’s office collections totaled $775,407.02, of which $581,125.90 were tax receipts. Tax collections have been nearly perfect in recent years, Stevens notes.
