Murderous dagger and a wife in peril in a London house
Francis Ledsam defends Oliver Hilditch, a criminal mastermind, and is warned by Hilditch’s wife that he may be freed only to face a deadly accusation. A dinner confrontation reveals a hidden stiletto and a chilling claim that Hilditch’s death would please his wife. After a late phone call, Ledsam learns Hilditch dies at once as a man reenacts his murder.

After long hesitation Francis reveals he will no longer defend anyone he doubts and will seek only innocent clients.
