Fraternal Initiations Boost Sidney MWA and Royal Neighbors
Sixty Modern Woodmen of America and twenty five Royal Neighbors candidates were initiated in Sidney last Friday. The Hardy hall and Odd Fellow hall hosted rites with delegates from numerous nearby camps. A banquet at the Commercial followed, attended by about 250. The Sidney camp now rises over 60 percent in membership and aims to play a key role in fraternal circles locally.

Sidney High School Carnival Promises Clean Sports Evening
An athletic carnival by Sidney high school students will be held in the gym on Wednesday night February 27 at 7 o'clock. The program includes boxing wrestling swimming water polo music and readings. Proceeds go to the general athletic fund to offset a deficit without burdening the school board.

At Lodge Pole meeting the Cheyenne county American Legion posts and Auxiliaries urged applying for a five or seven inch siege gun with carriage to serve as the county war memorial. Government says guns are free. freight about 363 dollars and mounting bring total to around 500 dollars. If secured it may be placed on the court house lawn with apportionment of costs among Lodge Pole Sidney and Potter posts and auxiliaries. About twenty Legionnaires and Auxiliary members from Sidney attended, joined by the Sidney saxophone octet. Lodge Pole post hosted an oyster feed.

Juvenile Band Banquet For Sidney Band Members
The Sidney Juvenile band with sixty members will host parents at a banquet on Friday February 20 at 7 PM in the Methodist church basement. About 180 people, including 120 parents, are expected. After meals, parents and boys will speak, with B W Bonham as toastmaster. A concert and readings follow in the church auditorium. The band also plans a Friday night concert in Potter with a mixed program by the Potter American Legion to raise funds for the county war memorial.

Four Ripp family deaths reported over year
Word reached this week that Fred Ripp of Sidney died in a Columbus hospital Sunday night after illness. He was moved by train for treatment where a hemorrhage occurred en route. he was buried in Columbus. The family has suffered multiple losses with three children and Mr. Ripp dying in the past year. Mrs. Ripp and five children survive. one child is seriously ill but expected to recover. Two children may be given a home by a brother.

Over the past week the Union Pacific report records temperatures from 06 degrees at noon Tuesday to 68 degrees Wednesday and snowy modestly by Monday afternoon. Skies stayed overcast with little sun until a light snow fell late Monday, covering the ground Tuesday morning. Despite the snowfall the cold remained mild and people walked without overcoats.
