Government to Build Reservoir and Withdraw Nebraska Land

Washington ordered seventeen townships in the Sidney land district withdrawn from entry under the government irrigation act of 1902. The move includes a 12 mile wide strip through Cheyenne, Scotts Bluff and Banner counties. Authorities also plan a $600,000 reservoir at Devil's Gate in Natrona County, Wyoming. North Platte dispatches on rail work and personnel changes

Dispatcher Albert Milner visited with North Platte friends last Saturday. D T Crowe and Will Shoemaker faced duty changes and illness while train crews, including Firemen and Engineers, received promotions after examinations. A wheel failure on No 2 at Bushnell caused a brief delay. Rumors circulated about a strike-breaker store proposal by Union Pacific officials. Firemen’s masque ball set for February 23.

County Wins Bartling Case Before Supreme Court

The supreme court affirmed the district court’s ruling in the county and Henry Bartling bondsman case seeking 2000 forfeited bond. Bartling failed to appear May 14 1901 after December 26 1900 appearance, leading to a verdict of 2108.25. appeal argued term continuation statute supported county.

Home Culture Club Hosts Longfellow Evening

The Home Culture Club met last Monday at Miss Julia McFadden's home west of town for a Longfellow themed program. Members recited quotes, learned about Longfellow's life, read poems, and discussed the poet's work. Miss McFadden then served luncheon, praised as a model hospitality. Next Monday Mrs. Danforth and Mrs. Martin host a Washington Evening at the Martin home with a few friends.
