The W. W. Downer well near Harrisburg produced 300 barrels daily for the third straight day. Stanolind oil men call the well of above average quality. output sold to Co-Op refinery at Scottsbluff. Other wells in progress include Lover check No 1, Nerud No 1 testing, Mann No 1 depth 6 585 feet, Munshaw No 1 drilling, and Carey No 1 in Logan County drilling below 700 feet. The Yenter Block wells show strong productivity with hydra frac on Segelke No 2 increasing daily output from 28–32 to 52 barrels.

High Line Ahead of Schedule From Nebraska Highline Project
The Reclamation Bureau power line from a Sidney sub station to south of Ogallala is six to eight weeks ahead of schedule per R N Campsey Construction Co. The 115000 kv line links to lines serving Grant and southwestern Nebraska, with Campsey payroll of about 15000 dollars monthly inChappell. Five inspectors and engineers from the Bureau work on site. Power will serve REA co-ops and Grant highline, with Seminole Kortes and Pathfinder Dams in Wyoming providing the energy. Future plans call for a four state dam tie up and an extension to Julesburg Colorado. Campsey also has a 220 mile line project in South Dakota from Fort Randall Dam and recently completed similar lines in Colorado and Wyoming.

The Sidney Youth Center will be closed on Sunday afternoons until further notice as the Advisory Board cites cost of heating against limited attendance. The center has 413 members and strong evening attendance. This month the Sidney High School senior class leads the high school group with Academy eighth graders supervising the junior high. During March Academy Juniors and Sidney Junior High seventh graders will run activities. Rotary Club members will sponsor the center in March.

Three directors were named to the Cheyenne County Dairy Breeders board at its annual meeting in Gurley. Leonard Bond Lodgepole filled the unexpired term. Kenneth Mueller Potter and Kenneth Larson Gurley won three year terms. Ivan Walker Dalton was chosen board chairman. Lebert Shultz of Wisconsin spoke on dairy breeding innovations with slides. Members voted to end the former membership fee plan and call the technician Sam Robinson for service with a flat service fee, noting returns above 60 percent versus state and national averages around 50 percent.

National Guard To Train August 12 26
The Nebraska National Guard will conduct a 15 day summer training period at Camp McCoy Wisconsin from August 12 to 26. About 2600 guard members will be transported to the site by train and truck under the direction of General Guy N Henninger state adjutant. The Nebraska air guard will not participate as it begins active duty April 1 at Lincoln air field and is not involved in the maneuvers. The training site location was confirmed at a Chicago logistics meeting for the Fifth Army area.

Cloud seeding plan eyed for seven Nebraska counties
A proposed cloud seeding district may extend into seven western Nebraska counties this summer to boost rainfall. The plan, backed by local farmers and businessmen, would include Banner Kimball Cheyenne Deuel Keith Perkins and part of Garden counties and involve a $3500 survey plus about $40000 for a six to seven county seeding program. The project uses ground based silver iodide generators and aims to raise rainfall by seven to eight inches annually, with expected start after March 1 following a February contract.

A Chicago woman, Ella Nelson aged 59, died of a heart attack early Saturday near Chappell while en route on the City of Los Angeles on a trip from Chicago to Santa Ana. Remains were removed at Sidney and sent to Santa Ana for services. Funeral arrangements are by Gehrig-Dugan with services in Santa Ana under Brown Colonial Mortuary. She leaves a son Bert of Chicago and a sister.

Flames Hit Drilling Big Fire Near Rippe Well
Sidney volunteer firefighters battled a blaze at the Rippe B-1 well after an oil slip ignited during welding. A 500 foot safety rule and a traffic collision slowed response as Delman W. Stanley and Donald Nelson, both of Sidney, were involved in a rear end crash but suffered no injuries. Damages topped 240 to vehicles and the rig sustained oil and gear damage, while no charges were filed.

Wickard land auction price tops $152.50 per acre
A top bid of 152.50 per acre was recorded at the Ernest Wickard farm auction last week. Purchaser B. J. Daily of Land obtains the Wickard place with irrigation improvements and about 89 acres of broken land. Auctioneer Emerald Rapp also sold the E. W. Oil Bonus Repealed Inactive 1949 Law Finally Struck
The legislature repealed the $15,000 oil discovery bonus law enacted in 1949 saying it has never cost the state a cent. The statute will be removed once the governor signs the current measure. Despite a two year oil boom, no claim has ever been filed for the bonus.
