County Bond Sales Rise In January For Cheyenne County
Cheyenne County reported January defense bond sales of 37137.50, with Nebraska total sales reaching 8967922.65, up 32 percent from a year earlier and the largest monthly total in over two years. Individual purchases exceeded seven million dollars, 78 percent of the total. Treasury figures show a 14 percent gain in nationwide sales and a 12 percent drop in redemptions. Nebraska redemptions fell 14.5 percent from 1951. Interest in the bond program seems strong and payroll savings plans rose from 30 to 36,799.

Herschel Spearow In Serious Condition After Heart Attack
Herschel Spearow remained in serious condition at Memorial Hospital in Watertown South Dakota after a heart attack suffered Thursday. Reports say Spearow, visiting South Dakota on business, was alone in his car near Arlington when struck by the attack. He drove about 40 miles to Watertown to seek a physician, with his wife joining him Friday. Merle Spearow will keep vigil with Mrs Spearow in Watertown as he recuperates for three weeks before planned transfer to Sidney for convalescence.

Cinemascope to Reach Denver Theatres by Easter
Frank H. Ricketson Jr of Fox Intermountain says Sidney Fox Theatre will show Cinemascope by year end and all Fox theaters in the region by early 1954. A Denver demonstration of Cinemascope is planned before Easter with short subjects and possibly scenes from The Robe, the first 20th Century Fox feature in the process.

Car Damaged In Saturday Collision Near Sidney
A 1950 Oldsmobile driven by 71 year old Joe Crumline sideswiped a crude oil truck owned by Western Nebraska Transport Company. The crash occurred 9:30 p.m. Saturday near the viaduct east of Sidney. Damages were $95 to the Oldsmobile, none to the truck, and no injuries were reported.

Sidney volunteers responded to a blaze in a house under construction in Indian Hills Addition. Builders C A Story Agency said the fire started from an overheated furnace. About 200 dollars damage was recorded to the ceiling and one partition.

Winds Down Oldville After 65mph Gales
A four hour Sunday gale with gusts to 80 mph caused extensive but lighter than expected damage in Oldville. Power lines and 125 telephones were knocked out in Ordville area, windows and shingles damaged at Sky Manor North Hill, and trees uprooted. Weather officials noted zero visibility and light snow traces. Virgil Knowles said town damage was surprisingly light with quick response by street crews.
