Maroons reach state tourney as Scottsbluff edges Sidney
Sidney High wrestling qualified nine for the state tournament in Lincoln. The Maroons finished second to Scottsbluff 102-96 in the regional meet, with Rich Slocum and Pee Wee Perez favorite champions. Slocum pinned three foes to claim the 133 lb title, Perez took 127 lbs, and Anderson won 165 lbs while Kaylor Kurz and others placed in consolation rounds.

Sidney, winless in January since the 15th, dropped its 10th and 11th games of the season. Gering routed the Maroons 68 48 as Larry Rice scored 27 and Sidney shot 3 26 from the field while hitting 20 of 27 free throws. The following night Lexington edged Sidney 67 52 as the Maroons fought back to reach 39 percent shooting while limiting Lexington to 46 percent. Dale Trude led Sidney with 19 points in the first game and Terry Engleman had 23 in the loss to Lexington.
